SS - 2 months old

By two months old, Baby SS is already playing with her saliva and she likes to smile alot. She smiles when we talk to her, say ang gu to her, playing by herself on the rocker, accompanied by her friends, monkey and hippo. I also noticed she likes to stare at the lights. She will smile happily when looking at them. Weird little girl :D

From the clip, can see my Baby SS started to play and suck her mittens..Dirty girl. Haha. Mummy loves you. *heart*

Vaccinations

Brought Baby SS to see Dr Chiah for vaccinations when she turned two months old. Before the vaccinations, Dr Chiah weighted her and took some height measurements. Baby SS is officially 5.6kg and 59cm @ 2 months old. He explained to us that Baby SS is still on track,on the 75 percentile for the body, head and length. After all the explanation, it was high time for the vaccinations. She took Hep B, pneumococcal and rotavirus (oral)and all these can be claimed under company. Luckily, else these will burn a hole in our pocket :) One vaccine is injected per thigh and as expected, Baby SS cried when the needle pricked her thighs. Once removed, she will stop crying, I am blessed to have such baby. :D She did not make a fuss about it and acted normal when she got home.....as per usual feedings and sleeping. We monitored her temperature for two days just in case of fever due to the side effects. Everything went well.

Botak SS

We had full moon celebration at Pusing Restaurant and all my in laws flew to my hometown to celebrate since Baby SS is still small. After full moon, I brought Baby SS to shave her hair.....She did not cry and was very co-operative when the hairstylist was shaving her hair. Good girl. And this was how she looked like after shaving. :(

Suddenly not used to it and could not recognize her. She looked like a character in Megamind. Haha...round round botak head. She can smile by now...and very satisfied after milk feeding. Look at her stomach!! So big and round. Doc said Baby SS had alot of "wind" in her stomach. He suggested to us to use different anti-colic bottles, massage her tummy, burp in between feedings and also direct breastfeed....We tried massaging with warm oil and she farted more after that. Now, her tummy looks more "normal". Was so worried previously.

SS - 1 month old

This year, Baby SS is with us to celebrate Baba and Mummy birthdays together. :D Had very simple celebration since SS is still very small and sleeps very early. She retires around 7+ or 8+ at night...and wakes up for 2 or 3 feedings during midnight. Since 2 weeks old, she was already consuming 3.5oz to 4oz!! Alot for a small baby. We tried to give her less but she will cry every time if the milk is less than 4oz...couldn't cheat a small baby...:P

At 1 month old, we weighted her at hospital and she was already 4.7kg! hehe. Doc said she is on the 75 precentile.....indicating our bb is relatively bigger than average....but still ok. :)
Baby SS disliked burping process and will keep kicking her legs and buttock to protest....somehow, I felt that Baby SS understand when mummy says, "SS, burp burp loud loud. Mummy wants to listen"....She will burp faster everytime after I said that. Not sure coincident or what. hehe

Confinement

We hired a confinement lady from Ipoh to stay with us. I disliked the idea of going to confinement centre as I feel uneasy staying out instead of own home. I would say it was a good decision as it turned out very well. My confinement lady helped to take care of me and BB, cook for my husband and do some house chores as well (bonus!). I would rate 7.5/10 for her confinement food. :D

However, there were two things I regretted during my confinement.
1) I regretted bathing daily starting from the 3rd day. :( Alot of people advised to bathe only after the 12th day.
2) I regretted not laying down on bed and rest well during the critical first two weeks.

And now my spine still sore whenever I change my BB's nappy, bending down. Sigh.

Jaundice

When we discharged, BB was still ok and had no sign of jaundice. Everyone was happy. :) However, during the first night, BB slept alot. We started to worry her sleeping pattern as she slept >4-5hours without feedings. Little did we know that this was not good for newborn as BB needs to have frequent feedings and frequent stooling helps lower bilirubin levels. On the 5th day, BB skin started to turn yellowish and upon blood check up, her jaundice level exceeded the threshold of 12 and doc advised to admit BB for photo-therapy. I was heartache to see BB crying so loud when the nurse pricked the arch of her foot. Everything was unexpected and I did not bring pacifier out to soothe her . The decision to admit BB sank in and tears just flowed naturally and uncontrollably. Very sad and heavy-hearted to leave BB at the nursery. :( My mil also cried due to my influence. Sigh.

According to superstition, BB is not allowed to wear anything yellow to prevent jaundice. Haha. We bought yellow bedsheet and my BB initial clothing for discharge is also yellow! But I changed to pink the very last minute. Also, some said using coconut or "huang kee" to bathe the BB will help reducing jaundice......we tried both!

BB discharged the next day since her level dropped to 10. Everyone was happy again, but little did we know BB jaundice will worsen in the coming week. We need to admit her for the second time and this round, she had photo-therapy for 2days. This time her level dropped to 7.5 and we can monitor her from home. Every morning we sunbathed her and her condition improved day by day. As new parents, we were really worried during the first 2 weeks. Things are better now :D
